Thilo UebbertSenior Consultant for Programme Management

As the Senior Consultant for Programme Management at Murzilli Consulting, Thilo coordinates and oversees the company’s strategic practices. He is the former CTO of FLÜGELaeronautics, which had one of the first eVTOL projects to fly successfully with a scaled down demonstrator within Germany. He is also a Prince 2 Practitioner and the former Head of Programme Management at WINGCOPTER.

Thilo’s Contributions to Murzilli Consulting

In 2023, Thilo took the opportunity to join Richard Boden in developing the German subsidiary of Murzilli Consulting. The consulting firm is known for 360° services for regulation, technology and strategy for innovative aviation stakeholders, and in 2023 became a part of the holding company, M&K Global.

In his role as Senior Consultant for Programme Management, Thilo has guided organisations such as blueflite through several Murzilli Consulting services including organisation development strategy, regulatory strategy and aviation authority liaison. He has been the project lead on many collaborative projects with our partners, including Baringa, Elroy Air, Fotokite, Swisscom and Volant. Thilo implements processes, procedures and best practises internally to enable the company’s growth and streamlined operations. He also provides consulting support with company strategy, product certification, flight authorisation and c-class marking activities.

Drones in the Start-Up Sector

In its early development, the growing drone industry saw many innovative aviation start-ups enter the ecosystem. In 2017, the Dresden-based high-tech novelty aircraft startup, FLÜGELaeronautics entered the market and began developing eVTOL air taxi solutions.

As the industry gained momentum, so did Thilo’s career. After writing his final thesis on a wing folding and locking actuator system for a small hovering aircraft with vertical take-off and landing ability at FLÜGELaeronautics, Thilo advanced through the company before finally taking on the role of the start-up's CTO.

As CTO, he was responsible for the management of the technical development of the innovative canard-biplane 2-seater aircraft configuration. Under his leadership, the team was able to demonstrate all flight states of the novel aircraft configuration on scaled prototypes including the first-time demonstration of folding wings in hover flight.

Thilo’s Role at Wingcopter

Thilo’s ingenuity and accelerated pace caught the attention of 2023’s German Start-up of the year, Wingcopter. The drone manufacturer and service provider hired Thilo in 2019 as a Research and Development Engineer and Drone Pilot.

Over the next two years, Thilo was involved in projects such as the Medical Delivery Project for Malawi where he prepared, coordinated and pilotted the drone to execute automated beyond visual line of sight flights for the delivery of medical supplies.

In 2020 Thilo was the Chief of Flight Operations for the African Drone Forum in Rwanda for beyond visual line of sight flights. As part of the Lake Kivu Challenge, the Wingcopter team took first place as the winner of the Emergency Delivery category as well as second place for the Sample Pick Up and the winner of the Special Award for Safety Procedures.

As the Engineering Project Manager and Payload Team Lead for the Wingcopter W198, an innovative tilt rotor drone developed to transport medical and commercial goods, Thilo coordinated various development teams within the Wingcopter Technology Division and managed the multidisciplinary development team resulting in the aircraft’s triple drop payload mechanism.

In 2021, Thilo became Wingcopter’s Programme Manager where he handled internal and external stakeholder engagement, focusing on development, production, certification and operation of the W198. In this role, he led the internal transformation programme and coordinated the technical development and documentation, which prepared the W198 programme for the Type Certification and Product Certification process of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Finally, in 2022, Thilo advanced to the Head of Programme Management. During his time in this role, he established the overall programme organisation at Wingcopter.  The focus of this role was to built up and develop the Wingcopter programme management team.

Thilo’s Education and Degrees

Thilo studied at RWTH University in Aachen, where he completed a bachelor's and master's degree of Science between 2012 and 2017. For his bachelor's degree, he chose the focal areas of mechanical and aeronautical engineering, which initiated his passion for the aviation industry. When he continued his studies to complete his master’s in 2015, he focused on aerospace engineering, aeronautics, and astronautics.

As our company and team continue to expand, we are proud to share journeys like Thilo’s to show how far we have come and what we can achieve together for the future of Innovative Air Mobility.
