Murzilli Consulting’s regulatory newsletter for the latest in UAS, eVTOL and AAM/IAM updates.
The regulation becomes effective on March 10, 2025 and includes updated equipage requirements for airborne collision avoidance systems within European airspace. It states that all turbine-powered aeroplanes with a maximum certified take-off mass exceeding 5,700 kg or authorised to carry more than 19 passengers must be equipped with TCAS II version 7.1 or ACAS Xa to avoid mid-air collision. This requirement does not apply to UAS, however it may apply to operators of particular aeroplanes registered in a third country.
This document covers airworthiness security features, with consideration to Special Condition (SC) and Means of Compliance (MOC) established by EASA for small-category enhanced VTOL aircraft while adhering to AMC 20-42 for VTOL.
SC VTOL is limited to crewed VTOL, therefore, the guidance is also for crewed VTOL operations. The EASA MoC to VTOL.2500 is also limited to category enhanced VTOL, therefore the guidance is intended for that category of VTOL.
EASA in collaboration with the European Commission, European Environment Agency (EEA) and EUROCONTROL have released their 4th edition of the European Aviation Environmental Report (EAER).
The report focuses on the several areas including; an overview of the aviation sector, aviation environmental impacts, technology and design, air traffic management and operations, airports, sustainable aviation fuel, market-based measures and international cooperation.
Highlights include:
🔸 The beginning of a non-CO2 measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) framework in January 2025, targeted at monitoring, reporting and verifying the non-CO2 emissions produced by aircraft operators.
🔸 The establishment of the Aviation Non-CO2 Expert Network (ANCEN) which is aimed to facilitate coordination of stakeholders and provide technical support on potential measures to reduce climate impact from non-CO2 emissions.
🔸 ICAO CO2 certification for all-production aircraft will be required by 1 January 2028.
🔸 The ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) plans to define aircraft noise and CO2 limits in February 2025 which will become applicable in the next 5 years.
🔸 The first emissions units have now been authorised for use in Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and comply with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) rules to avoid double-counting emission reductions.
The full report is only available in English, however, the executive summary and recommendations are available in all EU and UN languages on EASA’s webpage.
